“Ramayana, the story of the battle between Rama and Ravana, is an immortal composition of Valmiki and presents us a national event of ancient India in a poetic form. It is a great ancient Indian epic which is not only an exciting story, but a deep learning tool for all the people of the world.
It presents the deeds of Lord Rama. The other main characters in this great work are Iksvaku, Dasaratha, Asvapati, Janaka, Rama and Sita are incidentally the characters of the Ramayana. The entire story moves around the sacrifice and renunciation of Lord Rama and his consort Sita, the ideal of Indian womenhood.
This world famous epic has been divided into seven chapters i.e., from Balakanda to Uttarakanda. It begins with a dialogue between the sage Valmiki and the famous mythological seer Narada. Narada describes the entire virtues of Rama to Valmiki and later sage Valmiki weaves them into 24,000 verses, and this historic composition has become an invaluable heritage of the world literature.
The present book contains all original Sanksrit verses and English translation of M.N. Dutt which is very lucid in reading, but the editor has also made appropriate changes in the translation according to the Sanskrit text. Dr. Ramashraya Sharma, an eminent personality on Ramayana, has written an exhaustive introduction and in the end of volume, the index of verses will be very useful for the researchers and layman.”
